Iran offers various types of visas to for different purposes of travel:
Tourism (Leisure) Visa: Designed for leisure travelers worldwide, allowing exploration for up to 45 days, extendable to 90 days.
Medical (Treatment) Visa: For patients seeking affordable medical and cosmetic treatments, including procedures like nose jobs, dental work, hair transplants, etc., offered by certified facilities with world-class services.
Student (Academic) Visa: Intended for students, researchers, and scholars planning to study for one or more semesters, requiring a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status from relevant authorities.

When traveling to Iran with a camper, car, or bike, ensure to complete your carnet de passage before arrival to avoid costly border processing. Provide details of your nightly camping areas, specifying whether you'll stay in your vehicle or tent.
Note that diesel vehicles may require obtaining diesel ration from truck drivers, while regular gasoline can be obtained from pump attendants.
Visa on Arrival (VOA) is available only at airports, with Tehran's IKIA Airport being the primary entry point. Airports issuing VOA include Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, Kish Island, Qeshm Island, Tabriz, Urmia, Ahvaz, Kerman, Lar, and Bandar Abbas.

- The location for obtaining the visa (airport or consulate) is important and cannot be changed. So, you must specify the pick-up location precisely.
- If the visa is rejected, the application fee will be refunded.
- The required information for issuing a visa varies based on the traveler's nationality:
- The ziyarat (pilgrimage) tour includes traveling to Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad. Travelers of specially designated (British, American, and Canadian) nationalities will follow the same visa issuance process as other nationalities.
Note: Mashhad and Qom are considered pilgrimage cities, but Tehran is not.
- The visa issuance process takes 7 working days.
- The visa will be issued in a maximum of 30 days. The traveler must specify the exact number of days they intend to stay in Iran in advance, as visa extensions require legal procedures and cannot be handled by us. (The traveler must submit their documents to the Immigration & Passport Police Office for an extension.)
For land entry, the visa must be obtained from a consulate abroad before entering Iran. It is recommended that you attach a receipt for one night's hotel stay to the application file, as Iranian consulates may request a hotel voucher.
- Once the visa is accepted and the visa file is received via email, the traveler must go to the Iranian consulate abroad or the airport in Iran with their passport, the visa file, and the applicable government fee, which varies by nationality and the visa pick-up location, to receive the visa.
- Only tourist visas will be provided, and no single-entry visas will be granted.
- The visa will be issued for a maximum of 30 days.
The review process for the tourist visa application takes 30 working days from the date the Inspection and Cooperation Office within Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicraft and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) notifies the applicant of receipt of documents.
- If the documents are defective, the applicant's request for a tourist visa will not be considered. The office will not be responsible for delays or cancellations caused by incomplete documentation or delays in the application process by travel service companies.
- If the traveler intends to enter the country with motor vehicles, approval from the Inspection and Cooperation Office is required. The traveler must provide detailed information, including the vehicle's route from the country of origin, countries en route to Iran, entry border, travel route within Iran, exit border, return route, and complete specifications, along with a picture of the vehicle's documents.
- Any changes to the travel plan must be reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- After the visa is accepted and the visa file is received via email, the traveler must go to the Iranian consulate abroad with their passport, visa file, itinerary, and the applicable government fee to receive the visa.
For Tourists with Common Nationalities or Designated Nationalities with Ziyarat (Pilgrimage) Tours

- Portrait orientation, meaning its height should be greater than its width
- Dimensions: Minimum 400 pixels (width) by 600 pixels (height)
- Taken within the last six months
- Clear background
- Face forward and look straight at the camera.
- Maintain a neutral expression with eyes open.
- Wear everyday clothing.
- Uniforms, except for daily religious attire, will not be accepted in photos.
Do not wear a hat. Your face must be fully visible, and head coverings like scarves should not obscure any part of it or cast shadows on it.
- Using headphones, wireless earphones, and similar items in the photo is unacceptable.
- Wearing glasses in photos, except under specific medical conditions, is unacceptable. If glasses are worn for medical reasons, the following must be observed:
· Frames should not cover the eyes.
· Glasses should not obscure or blur the eyes.
· Any shadow or flash reflection from the glasses' lens that makes the eyes unclear will not be accepted.
- Photos scanned from passports, driver's licenses, etc., are unacceptable. Photos taken using mobile phones or similar low-quality devices will also be rejected.
- If the personal photo does not match the traveler's current appearance, even if taken within the past six months, it will not be accepted, and the visa application may be rejected.
- Applicants who meet the following conditions must provide new photos that match their current appearance:
- Underwent facial surgery or have facial scars that alter their appearance.
- Removed or added certain features like tattoos or blemishes.
- Experienced significant weight changes that affect their facial appearance.
Changes such as a beard or similar alterations are not considered changes to one's facial appearance. Therefore, there is no need to take a new photo. However, acceptance of your passport photo scan is at the discretion of the consulate office of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where you choose to apply for the visa.
One of the most essential parts of the visa application process is uploading a scanned copy of your passport photo. The following information can help you prepare an appropriate and acceptable scan. However, the consulate office of the Islamic Republic of Iran where you choose to apply for the visa handles the acceptance of your passport photo scan.
Photos of infants and young children should not include another person, and the child should look at the camera with eyes open.
Guide 1: Lay your child on a light-colored blanket. Ensure there are no shadows on the child's face in these conditions.
Guide 2: Cover the child's chair with a light-colored cover and take a picture while your child is sitting in the chair.
The scan of the first page of the passport should:
- Be a color photographhy. Black and white or single-color photos may be rejected.
- Be in JPG or JPEG format.
- Have a file size of 500 KB or less and at least 10 KB.
- Only include the first page.
- Be horizontal with the image width greater than its height.
- Have a resolution of at least 800 (width) by 600 (height) pixels.
- Be of high quality.
- Neither too dark nor too bright.
- Have edges which align parallel with the display screen.
- Ensure all text on it is clearly visible. Any smudges that obscure text may result in the rejection of the application.
Due to domestic laws and bilateral agreements, residence in the Islamic Republic of Iran is possible for nationals of certain countries without a visa through established procedures. This law is valid until June 2024:
- Nationals of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Syria, Georgia, Armenia, Egypt, China, Iraq, Oman, and Kazakhstan are subject to visa waiver laws.
- Nationals of Lebanon, Venezuela, and Malaysia can obtain necessary entry permits at entry points based on specified laws and conditions.
- Common passport holders of 28 countries can stay in the Islamic Republic of Iran for tourism purposes once every six months for 15 days (non-extendable) without a visa.
