This tour follows the path of mysticism in the history of Iran and familiarizes you with the practices of Mysticism while introducing you to the most famous figures of this path. In this tour, you will travel to three main centers of Mysticism in Iran to visit the tombs of famous mystic figures like Bayazid Bastami, Sheikh Abu al-Hassan Kharaqani, and Al-Ghazali. Mysticism branches off to many schools of thought and variations, but bear in mind that they are all founded on spiritual transcendence. In this Itinerary, we will get to know about the main figures in the history of Iran, among which many were known for their literature and poetry like Attar and Khayyam. You can go on this historical pilgrimage to learn about mysticism in ancient Iran, enjoy visiting the spiritual cities, and plunge into the mausoleums with classical architecture. Note that there are yet many other corners in Iran to follow the path of mysticism that are not included in this itinerary. Having rested for the night after your arrival at the city, we will start our brand new day by visiting one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the heart of Tehran. The Golestan Palace and its gorgeous architecture present us with the most beautiful and photogenic intricacies and patterns in designing a palace.
After tasting one of the delicious Persian dishes for lunch, we will head towards Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine nestling in southern Tehran. Muhaddis Nuri has quoted from the treatise of Sahib b. 'Ubbad that “He was a pious man known for his trust-keeping, truthfulness and knowledge in religion; a believer in the Unity of God and Justice of God, and a transmitter of many hadith.”
Then, we will visit Imamzadeh Taher, the shrine of Taher ibn Zayn al-Abidin located not so far from Shah Abdol-Azim Shrine.

For the second day of this mystic tour, we will visit the tomb of Muhammad Nurbakhsh Qahistani, the man who gave name to the Noorbakhshia school of Islam. Through his writings, Nurbakhsh attempted to bridge the gap between orthodox Sunnism and Shi’ism and was hailed for reaching a very high degree of spiritual enlightenment. We will learn more about this school of Islam and his ideas while visiting his tomb in the Sulqan rural district near Tehran.

After breakfast, we’ll move towards Semnan province, one of the renowned places among those interested in Persian mysticism. After about 5 hours on the road, we will reach the city of Semnan, where we will visit the mausoleum of Ruknuddin Ala ud-Daula Simnani, who was a great writer and teacher. We will learn about his life and what he practiced. The building of his mausoleum is one of the National Heritages of Iran. We will also see the tomb of Syed Ibrahim Nurbakshi, the king of Semnan and proficient scholar.
Then, we will drive toward Bastam for about 2 hours and be in one of the most important destinations of this journey. We will visit the beautiful mausoleum of Bayazid Bastami, the founder of the ecstatic school of Islamic mysticism, and gaze in wonder at its incredible architecture and the eye-catching azure domes.
Later, we will move toward the not so far city of Kharaqan, where we can visit the venerated tomb of Abu al-Hassan al-Kharaqani, one of the greatest masters of sufism who has been alluded to by great Persian poets such as Attar of Nishapur, Rumi, and Jami.

After a 5-hour drive toward Mashhad, we’ll reach Neyshabur, the city of notable Persian poets Attar and Khayyam, whose mausoleums we will definitely visit.
We will also see the mausoleum and tombs of Abu Usman Al-Maghribi, Yahya ibn Mu'adh al-Razi, Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, and Abd al-Karim Al-Qushayri, four of the most remarkable Iranian mystic figures. And, we will learn about their rule of life in Islamic mysticism. Qushayri’s Epistle on Sufism is essentially a defense of sufism against the doubters that rose during the time of his life.
