Day 4,5,6 | Kooch
Nomads’ Kooch
Living with People of the Mountain
Scenic Zagros Mountains
Experiencing the Nomads’ Epic Migration
Our Nomads’ Kooch begins as the morning light reveals a breathtaking view of the flock grazing in lush green pastures. Today marks a significant day—the Kooch, the epic migration of the nomads. For the next few days, we will journey alongside these resilient People of the Mountain, moving through the majestic Zagros Mountains as they undertake their seasonal migration.
During these migration days, we’ll hike between 40 to 80 kilometers, depending on the family’s route and the terrain’s difficulty. If our Kooch takes place in late March or early April, we may cross one or two snow-covered peaks, adding to the adventure. As we follow the flock, the stunning landscapes of the Zagros will unfold before us—massive mountains, oak-covered valleys, and the constant, soothing sound of sheep bells.
Afternoons bring a peaceful pause when the nomads rest, allowing us time to soak in the serenity of our surroundings. Evenings are magical, as we settle down to rest beneath the starry sky or within our tents, wrapped in the cool, crisp air of the mountains.
Flexibility is essential during the Kooch, as weather conditions, migration schedules, and family dynamics may alter plans. The starting date, duration, and day-to-day activities may shift, inevitably affecting the overall itinerary, including any city tours.
